Anti-Wrinkle FAQ

WHAT ARE ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS?

Anti-wrinkle injections (Botox® or Azzalure®) are used in anti-aging treatment to soften and prevent unwanted lines and wrinkles. They are most commonly used in the upper third of the face.

DO ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS REALLY WORK?

Absolutely! The result is a reduction in movement of the muscles. Lines and wrinkles on the face are caused by years of repetitive contraction of these muscles that etches a line into the skin. When these muscles are relaxed the lines very quickly disappear.

WILL I LOOK "FAKE" OR "FROZEN"?

No! We don't endorse heavy treatments. Many people today opt for a natural, more refreshed look rather than a frozen look. This requires very careful dosing in very specific areas to reduce the signs of ageing without looking like you have had a treatment.

DO THE INJECTIONS HURT?

Most people will feel something when the treatment is being performed. However, the procedure is described as painless by most people. For particularly nervous patients, a numbing cream may be applied.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Botulinum toxin injections have been used safely for over 30 years for cosmetic and medical uses. In cosmetic doses, serious side effects are incredibly rare. Less serious side effects are related to the treatment affecting the wrong muscles and can result in a drooping of the eyebrow or eyelid. These side effects are uncommon and less likely to happen with an experienced practitioner. You may experience some temporary bruising or swelling at the injection site as with all injections.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

Most people will get about 4 months of a result from a single treatment. There is some variation between 2 months and 6 months. Some evidence suggests that with regular treatments, the effects may last longer.

Dermal Filler FAQ

IS THE TREATMENT PAINFUL?

There can be some mild discomfort associated with treatment. During placement, a slight discomfort may be felt. If you wish, our team can use a topical anaesthetic on the treated area to minimise any discomfort. For lip augmentation, we can administer dental anesthetic to the area.

HOW DO DERMAL FILLERS COMPARE TO ANTI-WRINKLE TREATMENTS?

Dermal fillers are slightly more invasive than anti-wrinkle treatments and there is likely to be some slight swelling.

DO I NEED TO TAKE TIME OFF WORK TO HAVE THE TREATMENT?

Patients often return to work after treatment. Swelling should be expected in certain areas, but this will be discussed & explained in your pre-treatment consultation.

HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT LAST?

Depending on you as a individual and the area treated, you can expect to repeat the treatment twice a year. On average, the treatment will last 6-8 months. In the lip area, the treatment will last about 5-6 months. The reason for this is that there is more mechanical stress in this area; therefore, the product tends to break down more quickly.
