Meet the team
A little bit about us...
History of the practice The practice has been on Chester Road for over 60 years. We bought the practice in January 2002 from Ian and Steve Gray who are still working with us today.
We have developed the practice from a two surgery NHS practice to a successful five surgery mixed NHS and Private practice with a hygienist, dental therapist and patient coordinator on the team.
This development is ongoing to meet the requirements of our patients and the demands of a continually changing NHS system. The practice and staff at the Breeze Dental Practice thrive on meeting new demands and enjoy seeing the business develop.
Jackie and John Doran (Practice Owners) Jackie and John are husband and wife and manage the practice with help from their staff.
John’s background is in management consultancy and his energetic ideas have brought the practice
to the successful position it is in now. He never lets the grass grow under our feet and we are
always waiting for the next innovative idea. His enthusiasm for dentistry has also lead him in
to consultancy for Practice Plan, a company who encourage and support practitioners to develop
their businesses in these uncertain times and consider independent dentistry to allow the public
a choice of treatment styles and options.
John’s role also includes liaising with the Primary Care Trust which he does with his usual vigor.
As a practice this is invaluable because it allows the clinicians to concentrate on treating
their patients which is what we do best!
Jackie Doran is the principal dentist in the practice and has been working in general practice for
19 years now. Up until six years ago she worked as an associate but decided to set up her own
practice on Chester Road in January 2002. As a person, Jackie is kind and caring, she will
do whatever it takes to look after you and is determined to treat all patients as individuals,
caring for your specific needs. She is honest and down to earth, will always strive to give you
value for money and will give you the respect she hopes you will return to the dental team.
Her passion lies in the treatment of phobic patients and she holds a diploma in conscious
sedation. There is nothing more rewarding than succeeding with the treatment of patients who dare
not even walk through the door! The life long friendships we make in doing so also make this
worthwhile. Over the last three years Jackie has developed a love of cosmetic dentistry
including dermal fillers. The dental part of that ranges from white fillings to “smile
makeovers”,
While Jackie appreciates this kind of treatment is not for everyone and respects that completely,
those patients who have benefited from treatment have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have
seen their own confidence grow enormously!
The Dentists
The Breeze Dental Practice has progressed over the years to where it is today. Our staff have
developed in order to create the right team for the patients in our care.
Our current team is fabulous, with both the male and female dentists all working in the best
interests of the patients in their care.
Ian and Steve have been at the practice for over 10 years and work with a very loyal group of
NHS patients.
Parul and Preet treat both NHS and Private patients and bring a depth of calm and caring, mixed
with a lot of fun to the practice.
All of the associates are well liked and respected by the team and the patients that they have.
The practice policy is to attract dentists to work in the practice who share common goals,
including respect for each other and all patients, no matter what. We have dentists with passion
and enthusiasm for the job and they deliver this to the patients in their care. They want to
continue to learn and keep up to date. We have the perfect team.
Practice Manager Mrs Melanie Davison was appointed practice manager in March 2007. Melanie runs the practice on a daily basis allowing John and Jackie time to do their jobs. She is young, keen and enthusiastic and provides the perfect balance in the “management triangle”. She has the support and loyalty of the rest of the team and her biggest asset is that she holds the needs of both patients and staff at the top of her list of priorities. She is available 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday to Thursday to deal with any queries you may have.
Reception Elaine and Danielle are our two main receptionists, with a “little bit of help from their friends” occasionally. What a team! They strive to treat patients as individuals, provide a friendly face as you walk into reception and will do their best to provide you with the highest standard of service they can.
Patient Coordinator Beccy is our patient coordinator. She is perfect for this role because she is kind, friendly and always willing to listen and discuss things with you. She will never put pressure on you to make a decision. She is usually the second person you meet when you join the practice and will find out what you want from a dental practice. She will help you decide if we are the practice for you. She will discuss all of the ways you can be a patient at the practice and what that would mean to you. She will also give oral health education, discuss treatment plans which have been formulated by the dentist and show you models to help you visualise exactly what your dentist has advised you. She goes through cost with you and can, if you wish, discuss payment methods to help spread the cost of treatment.
Surgery Girls
Julie, Mel, Kirsty, Rebecca and Joanne.
We have five main surgery nurses who run the surgeries to an amazingly high standard, coordinate
the treatments that go on in them and look after the patients in their care, treating you all
as individuals. They provide a lot of fun and chatter along the way to help you relax in our care
as much as possible.
Becca and Kate, our youngest team members, are there to support them in all that they do and we
would be lost without them.
Hygienist and Dental Therapist
Nic is our hygienist and she is responsible for the preventative care of the patients in our practice
and sees many of our patients to maintain clean mouths and prevent gum disease. She also works a lot
with children, carrying out preventative work such as fissure sealants.
Dani is a dental therapist. This means that she is a “mini dentist” able to do all of the hygienist
work and extraction of children’s teeth and fillings, under the direction of the dentist. Dani
joined our practice one year ago and in that time has developed an excellent working relationship
with Jackie and the patients in her care.
Both Dani and Nic have over 20 years experience, are amazing at what they can do and care for all
of their patients doing their very best to meet specific needs. As a patient at the practice you
will get to see a lot of them!
Last, but not least! Laura, our cleaning lady, has been with us for 23 years now and is undoubtedly the most important member of the team. Where would we be without her!
The practice surgery is located in the heart of Sunderland and has parking available in the nearby area. See and print map
We look forward to serving the dental needs of your family
Our dental team
Jackie and John Doran own and manage the practice with the help of their practice manager
Mrs Davison.
In addition to this, they have four dental surgeons, reception staff, a hygienist, a dental
therapist, a patient coordinator and dental nurses who all work as a team to provide you with
the best dental care.
