Cosmetic dentistry
For pictures please see the about us section » As well as concentrating on the health of your teeth, there are now procedures concerned with the aesthetics, or appearance, of your teeth. Cosmetic dentistry can be used to straighten, lighten, reshape and repair teeth. As well as the two procedures below, crowns and composite fillings can also come under the heading of cosmetic dentistry.
Tooth whitening
The most common tooth whitening method is professional bleaching, where a specially made tray
fits around your teeth like a gum shield, and the whitening product is left to work. Usually,
the active ingredient in the tooth whitening bleach is hydrogen peroxide or carbonate peroxide.
As oxygen gets into the enamel on your teeth, the bleaching agent reacts and makes the teeth
lighter in colour.
Laser whitening, or ‘power whitening’, can be used to speed up the bleaching process. This is when
a light or laser is shone onto the teeth to quicken the chemical reaction and lighten the teeth
up to 5 or 6 times lighter.
Veneers
A veneer is a thin slice of porcelain, or a tooth-coloured composite, made to fit precisely over
the front surface of a tooth, much like a false fingernail on a nail. Veneers are an ideal
way to instantly alter the appearance of your teeth, hiding discolouration, closing small gaps
and repairing chips and cracks.
Your dentist will take an impression of the tooth, and a dental technician will create your
porcelain veneer in the laboratory. If you opt for a composite veneer, it can usually be fitted
in one visit using the same material used for tooth-coloured fillings. Composite veneers are
more prone to discolouration over time, however replacements are easily made.
Straightening teeth
We are able to straighten and improve the appearance of crowded and poorly positioned teeth in most cases. We strive to ensure this is done in the most conservative way possible depending on the case in question. Patients have been amazed at the results achieved by doing this. If it is something that interests you then we are more than happy to make an appointment to discuss different treatment options available. There are even easy ways to pay too!
Wrinkle rescue and dermal fillers
Jackie Doran has trained in the use of these very popular treatments. They’re not for everyone, but for those patients who would like to keep their smile lines under control it works very well. Pictures are available in the section ‘About us’. Who better to administer injections than a dentist whose job it is to give injections every working day, in as painless a way as possible?
The practice surgery is located in the heart of Sunderland and has parking available in the nearby area. See and print map
We look forward to serving the dental needs of your family
Our dental team
Jackie and John Doran own and manage the practice with the help of their practice manager
Mrs Davison.
In addition to this, they have four dental surgeons, reception staff, a hygienist, a dental
therapist, a patient coordinator and dental nurses who all work as a team to provide you with
the best dental care.
